Cranberry Crumble recipe

A great way to use up leftover cranberry sauce, this warming crumble makes a deliciously different dessert at Christmastime. Serve with some ice cold vanilla ice cream or some warm custard. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon for a touch of extra flavour.

  • 4 dessert apples
  • 450g cranberry sauce - homemade or jarred
  • 75g wholemeal pastry flour
  • 125g dark brown sugar
  • 125g melted butter
  • 100g porridge oats

  1. Peel, core and thinly slice the apples.

  2. Place the apples over the bottom of a buttered baking dish. Spread with the cranberry sauce.

  3. Mix together the flour, sugar, butter and oats, then sprinkle over the cranberry and apple, covering completely.

  4. Bake the crumble for around 45 minutes in a 180C oven.

You could omit the apple and use pear instead, or you could make a quick cranberry jam to use in the recipe by cooking cranberries and sugar together. This recipe serves eight.
